I bid farewell to you, unsure if you were the light or the darkness of my life.

When my heart feels as heavy as a stone,

And I am the stone, sinking slowly into the water,

Then your face becomes the darkness of my life.

But on days when I think of my laughter with you,

I am certain you were the only light I ever knew.

I say goodbye to you,

Because I can no longer bear the weight of longing for you in my heart.

I say goodbye to you—and to half of who I am.

When I say goodbye to you,

I also say goodbye to myself:

To the way I dressed when I was with you,

To my hairstyle,clothes,

To everything you touched.

But what about me?

You—you touched me too.

And now I understand why goodbyes are so hard:

Because in them, you bid farewell to pieces of yourself forever.
